Background: J. Scott

If this were a band, I'd be the guy standing slightly back playing the bass, avoiding the spotlight and drinking it all in. Of course the analogy falls apart completely because these other two are drummers and who's ever heard of a band with two drummers and a bassist? Unless we were some kind of crazy DJ Shadow/Go! Team band.

Right. So I'm relatively new to the musical scene compared to these guys. My first CD was "Hello Nasty" by the Beastie Boys back in early 9th grade. Elementary and Middle school were spent rocking out to "Definitely Maybe" and "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" by Oasis, on audio cassette. Needless to say, when Oasis became hip and trendy with the incoming indie scene, I was primed to sit back and judge all the Johnny-come-latelys. But then I heard Ryan Adams cover of "Wonderwall" and realized that new artist could make good music and during college I opened my eyes and started taking notice. Anyway, I got my first CAKE album, "Prolonging the Magic" for my 14th birthday and have been in love with them since (recently filling out my collection with "B-Sides and Rarities", I really encourage everyone to at least listen to their cover of "Mahna Mahna" for some Sesame Street nostalgia and blissful trumpet).

Also, I must confess a lot of my music comes from podcasts, but even more come from keeping my ears open during movies and TV shows. 'Wedding Crashers' had a decent soundtrack, and anyone who even caught a single episode knows that 'The OC' had some righteous music. For those still watching TV, 'Chuck' has had really good selections such as 'Yeah, Yeah' by Matt and Kim.

My Consistently Fav Artists: CAKE, Oasis, Death Cab for Cutie, Ok Go, Sea Wolf, Beirut (fuck you Washington Post), Postal Service

Artists I feel are worth the time: Music for Animals, Pinback, Scissors for Lefty, TV on the Radio (specifically "Wolf Like Me")

Concerts: Like I said, I'm a newbie at all this, so my concert attendance is low, and being stuck in suburban Indiana and Jersey has not helped much...but: Cold War Kids, Muse, Better than Ezra (x3), CAKE (x4), Everclear (x3), Kaiser Chiefs, Killers, Weezer, Louis XIV, Ambulance LTD, The Walkmen, Ok Go, Mandy Moore, Death Cab

Also I feel now's as good as time as any to mention we're all in our early-twenties, college graduates continuing in higher education, so when we bandy about phrases like "back in high school", we're not referring to the 50's or 2007, but in fact to the turn of the century.

whoa. both you and Chris included Mandy Moore in your list of concerts. It took me a second for it to click and to get past my instant of assuming that this destroyed all your credibility. But no, it just proves we went to a high school that was nerdy in some truly odd ways at times. And afterall, I was there, too. sigh.

Dude! As it turns out NJ's not too bad for concerts... so long as you're willing to trip out to nyc or philly once and a while.
Wait so I gues NJ sucks for concerts. But we got good neighbours. Places with great venues big and small...
