As the story goes, Scott Blonde and Lisa Light were forcibly removed from their previous band for the egregious offense of making out during practice. The Oakland duo subsequently formed The Lovemakers, and released their self-titled debut in 2003. Their second album, Times of Romance, featured notable studio drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle) on drums.

I saw them on a whim at a $10 Thursday night show in SF this January, and they were exceedingly haunting and catchy at the same time. While Blonde was full of energy and reminded me of Pete Townshend, Light was stone-cold and intensely looking straight ahead, like she was staring down a bear in the wilderness. They supplemented their three-piece band (Light on bass/vocals, Blonde on guitar/vocals, and Michael Urbano on drums) with some electronic backing. The tunes are danceable, rock-out-able, and will definitely stick in your head for quite some time.

Check out their official site for a ton of tracks; I particularly recommend "Dance," "Set Me Free," and "Shake That Ass," which has both original and 50 Cent mashup versions available.

whoa. I actually like this music. As a typical medical student, I have no time for finding new music. I'm sold. I'll come back to this site.

Nice. Too bad you can't blatantly steal their stuff from the myspace page...or can you?

No, but their official site has a full album worth of tracks, plus it's embedded in a sweet looking media player. Glad to hear we have our first fan in Rachel; start out with the overworked med student niche demographic!

All right; great sound.
When you mentioned "Set Me Free" I thought it was a remake of a 1964 Kinks hit (check it out on iTunes).
I guess song titles were meant to be recycled.
I will check out the others when time permits - music is good.

Yeah, it's your Dad
